Atlantic Yards B2 Tower

At the first tower of the Atlantic Yards project, installation of the prefab units have begun on the second floor. Units are transported to the site from a nearby factory at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where each of the 930 modular components are assembled. When completed later this year, B2 will contain 363 residential units on 32 floors. Half of these units will be affordable units restricted by family income, with the other half available at market rate.
High Line Headquarters

The new maintenance and operations hub for the High Line has opened at the park‘s southern end. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Beyer Blinder Belle Architects, the building houses the entire support staff and administrators for the park, public restrooms, and a public elevator. The design of the building is meant to evoke the character and details of the historic structures of its neighborhood, the Meatpacking District. Last fall, the High Line organization named the building for major donors and neighbors, the Diller - von Furstenbergs, who have given a combined $35 million since 2005.

Work has recently begun on the exterior envelope of Columbia's first academic building at its Manhattanville Campus. Metal facade panels in Columbia blue are being installed on the second floor. Meanwhile, on the uppermost floors, concrete floors are being poured and spray on fireproofing applied to steel members. The Science Center will provide Columbia with 60 labs totaling 450,000 square feet of space dedicated to studying the brain with its Mind Brain Behavior Initiative.
508 West 24th Street

Construction has topped out and window installation is well underway at Cary Tamarkin's latest project on the High Line. Designed to evoke industrial-era warehouses of the Meatpacking District's early 20th Century's past, the ten-story facade consists of architectural concrete and over-sized casement windows. A clock will be built into the facade that faces the High Line as an element to engage the pedestrians strolling along the park.
837 Washington Street

Exterior work is wrapping up on the Meatpacking District's newest trendy office building, 837 Washington. The warped exoskeleton addition, designed by Morris Adjmi's studio, has been fully erected on top of the existing 2 story structure that dates back to 1938 when it served as a meat warehouse. Not just for visual flair, the warped tower's structure will also allow for more open office floor plates by reducing the amount of interior columns. Vegetation is also accommodated by the warped form through planters that occupy the space between the columns and the exterior window wall. Views to the nearby High Line and its trendy neighbors, the Standard Hotel and the future Whitney Museum, will be available both in the office interiors and from the 7,000 square feet of outdoor terraces on the third floor and the roof. When completed, the project should achieve LEED Gold certification.
10 Hudson Yards

The first tower of Related's Hudson Yards mega project has reached above the portion that encompasses the High Line. Coach will occupy the office floors 09 to 26 that are underway now, while L'Oreal and SAP will occupy the floors above. The building is currently 85% leased. When it tops out, 10 Hudson Yards will reach 52 occupiable floors with 3 additional floors above for mechanical equipment, totaling 1.7 million square feet.
Manhattan West

Manhattan West is a site owned by Brookfield Properties that consists of 5.4 million square feet of development on 5 acres near the Hudson Yards development currently under construction. The project consists of 2 office towers, a residential tower, a hotel tower, an existing tower to renovated at 450 West 33rd Street, and a central plaza. Before the new towers can rise, a platform must be constructed across the rail lines that bring trains into and out of New York through Penn Station. A large, bright yellow piece of machinery called a launcher has been constructed at the western edge of the site to lift and place onto a temporary platform each of the 56 ton precast concrete segments of the 16 bridges that will span the tracks below. Once one of the bridges is complete, the launcher moves it laterally from the temporary platform to the final location. The project is now in the early stages of this bridge building process.
50 United Nations Plaza
Architects: Foster + Partners; Program: Residential; Location: New York, NY; Completion: 2015.
Across from the United Nations complex, Norman Foster's 548 foot tall tower in New York is nearing exterior enclosure completion, his first residential tower in the United States. Curtainwall has reached to the last remaining floors of the 44 story tower. When complete, the tower will accommodate 88 apartments designed and customized by Foster, from 1 to 3 bedrooms, a penthouse and a duplex penthouse. At the base of the building will be an entry featuring a million dollar waterfall and potentially a restaurant.
170 Amsterdam Avenue
Architects: Handel Architects; Program: Residential; Location: New York, NY; Completion: 2015.
The diagrid concrete structure is rising at Handel Architects' 170 Amsterdam. With 14 of 20 floors poured, the residential building is over the half way mark of its 185 foot height. When completed, the project will include 236 residential units and join the firm's other residential building, 150 Amsterdam, a block south.
